For this edition of Apollo in the Spotlight, we’re heading to Miami, USA, to meet Ernie Osorio of Cargo Seven. With a strong focus on flexibility, customer service, and finding solutions when timing matters most, Ernie shares his perspective on independent freight forwarding, the importance of trusted global partnerships, and the vision behind Cargo Seven’s continued growth.

Tell us a bit about how your journey in logistics began – was it something you always planned, or did it take you by surprise?

My journey into logistics was not something I had originally planned. Like many people in our industry, I discovered it almost by accident, but I quickly became fascinated by how logistics connects businesses, people, and markets around the world.

Over the years, I gained experience in different areas of the industry and learned that successful logistics is not simply about moving cargo from point A to point B. It is about understanding the customer’s business, anticipating challenges, and finding the right solution when timing, cost, and reliability matter.

That experience eventually led me to build Cargo Seven (C7) with a clear vision: to provide customers with comprehensive logistics solutions from Miami to destinations around the world, while maintaining the flexibility and personalized service of an independent freight forwarder.

What does innovation mean to you in the logistics sector, and how do you encourage new ideas within your company?

For me, innovation in logistics is not only about technology. It is about continuously finding better ways to serve the customer.

Technology is certainly important for improving visibility, communication, pricing, and operational efficiency, but innovation can also be as simple as redesigning a process, finding a better routing option, or developing a solution that saves the customer time or money.

At C7, I encourage our team to question the way we do things and continuously look for opportunities to improve. As an independent company, one of our key advantages is that we can make decisions quickly, adapt to specific situations, and implement new ideas without having to go through multiple layers of bureaucracy.

How can independent freight forwarders stay competitive in a market with increasing pressure from larger global players?

I believe independent freight forwarders should not try to become smaller versions of multinational companies. We should compete differently.

Large global players have scale, but independent forwarders can offer greater flexibility, accessibility, faster decision-making, and a much more personalized relationship with customers.

At C7, our goal is to become an extension of our customers’ logistics departments. From our Miami hub, we coordinate air freight, ocean freight, inland transportation, customs-related solutions, and time-sensitive cargo, giving customers a single point of contact for multiple logistics needs.

Networks are also extremely important because they allow independent companies like ours to combine strong local expertise with global reach. When the right independent partners work together, we can provide customers with an international solution while still maintaining the service, responsiveness, and accountability of a local company.

What do you enjoy most about the logistics industry, and what makes your role particularly fulfilling?

What I enjoy most about logistics is that it is never completely predictable. Every shipment comes with different circumstances, and sometimes finding the right solution requires creativity, experience, and very fast decision-making.

I particularly enjoy working with critical or urgent cargo. When a customer tells us that something absolutely needs to reach its destination within a specific timeframe, the entire team becomes focused on finding the best possible solution.

Seeing a shipment successfully delivered after overcoming operational challenges is extremely rewarding. In those moments, you realize that we are not simply transporting cargo — we are helping our customers keep their businesses moving.

Is there a specific achievement, shipment, project, or milestone in your career that you are especially proud of?

Some of the shipments I am most proud of have involved critical and urgent cargo where time was the most important factor.

These situations often require much more than simply booking transportation. They can involve coordinating pickups on very short notice, finding the best available flight or routing, communicating with airlines and overseas partners, monitoring connections, and keeping the customer informed throughout the entire process.

Successfully executing these shipments represents exactly what I want C7 to be known for: when a customer has a logistics challenge and needs someone to take ownership of it, we want to be the company they call.

Another important milestone has been the continued development of C7’s capabilities and international reach. Building a company that can provide increasingly comprehensive logistics solutions from Miami to the world is something I am very proud of.

Since joining, what has been the most useful or valuable part of the network for your company?

The most valuable aspect has been having access to reliable partners in different markets around the world.

In international logistics, your service is only as strong as the partners representing you at origin and destination. Having access to companies that truly understand their local markets allows C7 to confidently offer solutions beyond our own physical presence.

For us, the network is not simply a directory of agents. It expands what we can offer our customers and helps us provide the international reach they need, while keeping C7 as their primary point of contact.

What’s one thing you think makes this network different from other professional associations or logistics groups?

What I value most is the opportunity to build real business relationships rather than simply exchange contact information.

The true value of a logistics network becomes clear when members trust each other enough to exchange opportunities, solve problems together, and represent one another professionally in their respective markets.

That level of collaboration allows independent freight forwarders to compete globally while preserving the entrepreneurial spirit and personalized service that set our companies apart.

What’s one thing your colleagues would be surprised to learn about you?

They might be surprised to know how much I enjoy the strategic side of business beyond logistics itself.

I am constantly thinking about how businesses grow, how the customer experience can be improved, and how technology and new ideas can make companies more competitive.

For me, building C7 is not only about moving more shipments. It is about continuously creating a stronger company, developing our team, expanding our capabilities, and becoming a logistics partner that customers can rely on as their businesses grow.

Thank you to Ernie Osorio for taking part in Apollo in the Spotlight and for sharing his insights with us. We’re delighted to feature Cargo Seven and wish Ernie and his team continued success!
