What is an NVOCC?

An NVOCC, or Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier, is a company that arranges ocean freight services without owning or operating its own ships. Instead, NVOCCs purchase space on vessels from shipping lines and resell it to shippers, acting as trusted intermediaries in global trade. They also issue their own House Bill of Lading, which serves as a critical document for the shipment, detailing cargo specifics and acting as a contract of carriage between the shipper and the NVOCC.
