South Africa is moving ahead with one of the most significant reforms of its ports sector in decades. Cabinet has approved the separation of Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) from Transnet and its establishment as a standalone state-owned company.
Under the new structure, the country's national port landlord will be owned directly by the state rather than operating within the Transnet group. Cabinet has also approved a feasibility study into bringing in a minority equity partner from one of South Africa's development finance institutions.
