The International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) and Airports Council International (ACI) have joined forces to launch a coordinated initiative aimed at reducing the risk of runway incursions. A runway incursion occurs when an aircraft, vehicle or person is incorrectly present on a runway or within its protected area. These events are tracked in IATA's Annual Safety Reports, and several recent incursions have proven fatal. Preventing them demands close coordination across the entire aviation system, including airlines, airports, air navigation service providers, regulators and frontline personnel.
